As all of IT has surely noticed – or not – GCG has been absent from the blogosphere for a long time. Some extremely persistent hackers chose our site for enlistment into their global jihad. Oh, and they were also attempting to revive the Ottoman Empire. We’re generally anti-Jihad, and until now have had no stated position on the Ottomans – though at this point our feeling about them is one of vague disapproval, and understandably so. Even a good cause is no reason to hack a corporate website… and these are not good causes.

What was most surprising was the tenacity of the hackers. We’d get back up, and they’d get back in. Another fix, back up again, and then back down. Being simple folk – not security experts or web designers – we had relied upon our host to ensure security. This trust turns out to have been misplaced. But now we’ve contracted with an individual who has updated and secured us, and we think we’re ready to be interactive once more. (We don’t know his stance on either Jihad or the Ottomans, but thought it best not to ask just yet.) We can also get back to that re-design we were wrestling with when all of this happened…

It’s good to be back “on” again. Watch this space for the latest GCG News and Views. Here’s post-hack View #1: HACKERS SUCK!
